Prehealth Program Students may prepare for health profession schools by majoring in any department, if they include in their program courses that meet the minimum requirements for entrance. For most schools, these are one year each of English, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biology. Other courses often recommended include vertebrate biology, genetics, developmental biology, biochemistry, mathematics through calculus, and social or behavioral science. Because health profession schools differ in the details of their requirements, students should confer with a Prehealth adviser and inquire as early as possible about the requirements of the schools of their choice in order to plan their programs appropriately. Names of pre-health advisers and other information may be obtained from the Career Development Office or from Margaret E. Anderson ( manderso@science.smith.edu), Chair of the Board of Pre-Health Advisers.
