Phosphotransferase

Aminoglycoside phosphotransferase is a phosphotransferase that confers resistance to aminoglycoside antibiotics by catalyzing a reaction that modifies the aminoglycoside. During the reaction, a phosphate group is added to a hydroxyl group of the aminoglycoside. This renders the antibiotic ineffective so it no longer binds to the ribosomal unit during translation. Protein synthesis is thereby allowed to procede in the bacterium[1].
