PROCESSOR

According to ="http://www.wikipedia.com" A Central processing unit (CPU), is an electronic circuit which executes computer programs, containing a processing unit and a control unit. A CPU has four primary functions:

  • Fetch
  • Decode
  • Execute
  • Writeback.

RAMDOM ACCESS MEMORY (RAM)

According to ="http://www.ddrmemoryupgrades.com"=Random Access Memory, or volatile memory, is used by the system to store data for processing by a computer's central processing unit (CPU), also known as the processor. RAM stores the data in memory cells that are arranged in grids much like the cells are arranged in a spreadsheet. The RAM:

  • Is attached to the mother board
  • 512 MB
  • Stores data in binary

CD/DVD DRIVE

According to ="http://www.ehow.com"=The main components of a CD/DVD ROM drive are a small drive motor, a tracking mechanism and a laser/lens assembly, all of which connect to the motherboard of the computer via a 40-pin ribbon cable. The data forms a spiral whose path starts from the center of the disc. The CD/DVD ROM drive recognizes binary format and can read the data. CDs contain 650 to 700 megabytes of data, and DVDs, which have more storage space due to more layers, can hold nearly 2 gigabytes of data. CD/DVD primary functions are:

  • Tracking
  • Translating
  • Interpreting

POWER SUPPLY

According to ="http://support.gateway.com"=The basic function of the power supply is to convert the type of electrical power available at a wall socket, 120 volt, 60 Hz, into current the computer can use, +5 and +12 volt DC current. Usually the digital electronic components and circuits in the computer use +5 volt power, and the fan and disk drive motors use +12 volt power. For the computer to run properly, a steady supply of both types of current must be supplied at all times. Although the power supply generates both +5 volts and +12 volts, it also generates -5 volt and -12 volt signals. Power Supply's functions are:

  • Convert
  • Supply
  • 210 W output

HARD DISK

According to ="http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk"= A Hard Drive, is the main storage space inside your PC. It is a permanent storage component unlike the RAM (Random Access Memory). It is possible for your computer to function without a hard disk, however it would be basically useless to you as you would not be able to use an Operating system or have any programs to use.Hard disks use circular hard platters to store data on. They are in pristine condition with a mirror like finish to them. These platters are locked away inside a steel casing as unclean air can easily ruin a hard disk. A hard disk's function is to:

  • Store
  • Retrive
  • 40 GB

MOTHERBOARD

According to =http://patkay.hubpages.com"=A motherboard is also known as a main board or system board. The motherboard acts as the connection point where major computer components are attached to. It holds many of the crucial components of the system like the processor, memory, expansion slots and connects directly or indirectly to every part of the PC.A mother's board main function is to:

  • Provide connectors for other peripherals.
  • Serves as a logic board

CRYSTAL

According to ="http://www.soyouwanna.com"=Crystals are small electronic devices. Typically, they are made from a quartz crystal that is expanded and contracted at a specific resonant frequency. The oscillation (expansion and contraction) rate is determined by the shape/mass of the quartz crystal and is very precise. A crystal has two primary functions:

  • Timing
  • Synchronization.

BATTERY

According to ="http://www.ehow.com"=The CMOS battery (usually about quarter-sized, depending on the computer) is meant to retain your BIOS settings when the computer is disconnected from a power source; laptop battery or AC power. When a computer boots, part of its start-up process is to send a query to the RTC to determine the date and time.A typical lithium computer battery can run from two to 10 years. Some factors that affect the lifespan of a computer battery include ambient temperature, the duration of time the computer is powered off, and the type of motherboard the battery is attached to. The battery main function is to:

  • Store
  • Keep track of time
  • Power source
