Motherboard

The motherboard lies beneath everything found inside the CPU. The lines that can be seen on the motherboard gives power to the various areas located upon it. Also located on the motherboard is a small battery. This small battery is used for the internal clock. Regardless of using the computer today or tomorrow, the date and time will be correct.

Processor

  • Intel Pentium Processor
  • Model Number: 3332A626

The processor was found in the lower right hand corner of the motherboard and it was beneath the fan. The processor produces a lot of heat, so it needs to be directly under the fan to keep cool.

RAM

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. According to Wikipedia, it's a "form of computer data storage (that) allows stored data to be accessed in very nearly the same amount of time for any storage location, so data can be accessed quickly in any random order." (Retrieved Oct. 10, 2012 from Random Access Memory (RAM) The RAM found in the CPU was found to the left of the Intel processor and it contained two RAM of 512MB.

Crystal

According to Wikipedia, the crystal is an "electronic oscillator circuit that uses the mechanical resonance of a vibrating crystal of piezoelectric material to create an electrical signal with a very precise frequency". (Retrieved Oct. 9, 2012 from Crystal Oscillator) There were two crystals on the motherboard.

CD/DVD Drive

Cd drive.jpg

According to Wikipedia, the CD/DVD drive is a "disk drive that uses laser light or electromagnetic waves within or near the visible light spectrum as part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical discs." (Retrieved Oct. 10, 2012 from CD Drive) This means that when you insert a CD or DVD into the disk drive, your computer can read the information on it.

Power Supply

The power supply can be found in the upper right hand corner of the motherboard. It outputs 210 watts of power.

Hard Disk

The hard disk was beside the CD drive and it holds 80GBs of data. Inside the hard disk is a disc that processes information. According to Wikipedia, "an HDD consists of one or more rigid ("hard") rapidly rotating discs (platters) coated with magnetic material. Magnetic heads arranged on a moving actuator arm read and write data to the surfaces. The read-write heads are supported on a thin layer of air inside the enclosed disk unit with only tiny gaps between the heads and the disk surface." (Retrieved on Oct. 10, 2012 from Hard Disk Drive) There are hard drives that are in the computer, but there are also external hard drives which can be seen as a larger flash drive.
