<- Before opening the PC

The computer that we took apart was a Dell. The model was DELL X80-73060. There were many parts that we visible when we opened the computer

  • The processor

  • The RAM
  • The motherboard
  • The hard disk
  • The CD-RW Player
  • The power supply

Processor

The Processor found inside the PC was an Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz
Location: The Processor was found beneath the fan. The reason why the processor is located here is because the processor tends to overheat.
Information: According to wikipedia the processor is the portion of the computer that carries out the instruction for a computer program. It is believed that the Processor is the brain of the computer. The processor performs the basic arithmetical, logical, and input and output methods of the system.

Random Access Memory

RAM103bac.jpg

Also known as RAM
Location: The RAM was located on the motherboard. This particular model had been manufactured by Samsung and there were two RAMs in the computer. Each RAM was 256 Megabytes.
Information: According to wikipedia RAM is used for computer data storage. The mora RAM a computer has the more a person can store in their computer.

Motherboard

Motherboard103bac.jpg

Location: The motherboard was found next to the power supply Information: The motherboard is what holds almost all the circuits in the computer. It is the main central by which all the signals pass by in order to reach their final destination. According to wikipedia the motherboard provides the electrical connections by which the other components of the system communicate.
On the motherboard you can find not only the RAM but the crystal and a small battery

  • Crystal
    • The crystal is used to keep the time in a computer Crystal103bac.jpg
  • Battery
    • The small battery found in the motherboard is used to keep time when the computer is off

Location: The Hard Disk was found next to the CD- Rw Drive
Information: The Hard Disk on this computer can hold up to 40 Gigabytes of data. When the hard disk is open what you find is a disk. According to wikipedia The hard disk is a device use for storing and retrieving digital information, primarily computer data. It consists of one or more rigid (hence "hard") rapidly rotating discs (often referred to as platters), coated with magnetic material and with magnetic heads arranged to write data to the surfaces and read it from them.

The CD Player

Location: The CD/DVD player was found on the top part of the computer when it was opened.
Information: This computer had a CD-RW/ DVD Rom Drive. According to wikipedia A CD-RW (Compact Disc-ReWritable) is a rewritable optical disc. What make CD-RW disc different is that they require a more sensitive laser optics

The Power Supply

Powersupply103bac.jpg

Location: The power supply is located on the far right side of the computer, next to the motherboard.
Information: The power supply for this specific computer can output 210 watts. The cables that are visible in the picture all connect the power supply to the motherboard and other cables connect the motherboard to other parts of the computer. According to wikipediaconverts mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of the computer. Modern personal computers universally use a switched-mode power supply. Some power supplies have a manual selector for input voltage, while others automatically adapt to the supply voltage.
