Glenn Ellis

On average, I employ six students a year. For one grant, we are writing a fiction book about characters in middle school and the things they encounter. It is full of engineering challenges and activities to go with them. The book is called “Talk to Me.” Two students are a creative team: one an engineering student and the other an English major with an engineering minor.

Currently, I am studying the applicability of simple models to represent the effects of temporal variability of rainfall on vegetation. My students and I are conducting a field and modeling investigation of the role of dry-season precipitation in the tropical montane cloud forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica.

Judith Cardell

In my research, I investigate three areas that are part of transitioning today’s electric power system toward one that meets our needs while utilizing sustainable energy tech- nologies. These areas are the integration of distributed energy resources into the power system, the ongoing creation of electricity markets, and power system adaptation to global climate change.
