VISION & MISSION

Vision

Smith’s Picker Engineering Program is unlike any other in the United States. It was designed to prepare women for leadership roles in society as well as in the engineering profession. The curriculum emphasizes the unity of knowledge across engineering subjects in a liberal arts context.

The program is marked by faculty excellence and innovation in both education and scholarship. Picker engineering students are creative and committed to academic rigor. Their education encompasses:

Mission

The mission of Smith's Picker Engineering Program is threefold:

	To prepare Smith undergraduates for leadership roles in the profession of engineering and society in general by engendering Reductive and integrative approaches to problem-solving Deep conceptual understanding of engineering science fundamentals Strong written, oral and visual communication skills An ability to translate fundamental principles to design applications A passion for continuous learning and self-improvement Preparation for the professional practice of engineering
	To cultivate a community of scholars at the college recognized programmatically and individually for contributions to the advancement of engineering practice and pedagogy
	To promote engineering as within the context of a liberal education and as a profession in service to humanity
